The Choctow County police has no lead so far about three prisoners who escaped from a rural Alabama prison on Saturday. The lack of leads, despite the use of K-9 to track the escaped detainees, is because the men were likely picked up by an escape car.

The inmates reached about one-quarter mile of a state highway on foot and then likely boarded vehicles, said the Alabama Bureau of Investigation which leads the search for the escaped prisoners.

The three, 23-year-old Demarcus Woodward, 32-year-old Gemayel Culbert and 23-year-old Justin Terrell Gordon, shared one cell. Woodward and Culbert are accused of murder, while Gordon is involved in red robbery.

Tom Abate, the Choctow County sheriff, said one of the three screamed that one of them was so sick, so a guard peered through a porthole and saw a man throwing up. When the guard opened the cell door to check the sick prisoner, someone jumped on and choked him, stole his keys and mobile phone and left the jail walking, Abate recalled, reports USA Today.

He said due to the lack of updates, they cannot provide any further data, except to warn people that the three escaped prisoners are very dangerous individuals. They advised people who spot any of the three to call their local police agency.

Woodward allegedly shot to death a work-release prisoner, Culbert allegedly killed two persons at a private gathering and Gordon held up a convenience store.

Areas covered by a task force set up to hunt for the three jailbirds include Birmingham in Alabama.

The guard has been treated and later released at a hospital in the area.
