J. Cole Earns Third No. 1 Album; Ousts Taylor Swift From Billboard 200 Top Spot

Step down, Taylor Swift, Billboard's got a new king.

American hip hop star J. Cole dethroned pop princess Taylor Swift from the No. 1 of the U.S. Billboard 200 Wednesday. This is the singer's third consecutive chart-topping album, Billboard reports.

His first two albums, 2011's Cole World: The Sideline Story and 2013's Born Sinner both debuted at the chart's No. 1 spot.

Swift dropped to No. 2 after she reclaimed the No. 1 spot the other week.

Cole's album, 2014 Forest Hill Drive, sold 354,000 copies and 109,000 songs. It also enjoyed over 16 million streams, giving him a total of 375,000 units sold for its first week.

Swift's 1989 album, meanwhile, which spawned the the triple Grammy nominated single, "Shake It Off," came in No. 2, with 324,000 units.

A cappella group Pentatonix still remained unbeatable at the Top 5, placing No. 3 with its Christmas album, That's Christmas to Me, selling 218,000 units.

Billboard introduced a new formula for computing what album makes it into the chart. Ten music downloads equivalent to one album sale, while 1,500 online streams equates to one unit.

Carrie Underwood, who celebrates her 10th year in the recording industry, offers her fans with her latest album, Greatest Hits: Decade #1, which debuted No. 4 with 103,000 units.

Veteran rockers AC/DC rounded up the top 5, with their album Rock or Bust, placed fifth, after dropping from last week's No. 3.

The only other singer aside from Cole and Underwood  to debut on the Top 10 is K. Michelle, whose new album, Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart? with 87,000 units.

Swift, meanwhile, managed to retain the No. 1 spot at the digital song charts, with her single "Blank Space" enjoying 249,000 downloads.
