The NFL's Washington Redskins recently announced its decision to cancel the deployment of a Wi-Fi network at its stadium using technology developed by Chinese telecom giant Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.

The Redskins announced Wednesday it plans to work instead with two U.S.-based tech companies, Cisco Systems, Inc. and Verizon Communications, to install a Wi-Fi network at its stadium, Fed Ex Field located in Landover, Maryland.

"We are in the process of deploying a stadium-wide Wi-Fi network working with Verizon and Cisco," said Tony Wyllie, Washington Redskins' senior vice president, in an email sent to Inside the Ring.

The partnership between the Redskins and Huawei was announced last October. The NFL team previously chose to work with the Chinese giant because of its international experience.

Huawei had been working on stadium projects that include Signal Iduna Park in Germany, Glasgow Ibrox Stadium in the U.K. and the Amsterdam Arena in The Netherlands.

The Washington Redskins declined to explain why it decided to switch its direction.

The Fed EX Field has a capacity of 79,000 seats and is one of the largest stadiums in the National Football League (NFL).

The Wi-Fi network to be deployed will provide fans access to mobile apps that will allow them to watch videos and share their game experience via social media sites.
