Academy Award winner and Goop founder insists that everything she has and achieved, she earned herself.

In a recent interview, the 42 year old actress shares what it was like growing up within acclaimed Hollywood royalty, the late director and producer Bruce Paltrow and actress Blythe Danner.

"I grew up with the benefit of a great education and a beautiful house, but my father always said, 'The day you leave, that's it. You're not getting anything,' and he stuck to it," she shares in the Harpers Bazaar interview. "He was so hardcore about me making my own way...I've earned everything myself, and I've never taken any money from anyone-my father really pounded that into me, so I got the message."

"Women really need to examine why they're so vitriolic to other women; why they want to twist words, why they want to read about someone else in a negative light and why that feels good to them," she adds, noting how fortunate she was for having women around her who were loving and supportive.

As she moves on from the life she shared with her rock star husband, Coldplay's Chris Martin, and finds herself back in Los Angeles, she shares that she feels "a deep comfort" about being back home in California where everything is so familiar.

Having grown up in the sunny state, she expounds on how wonderful it was to have her children, 10 year old daughter Apple and 8 year old son Moses have the same experience.
