Harrison Ford, 71, was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after an accident on the Star Wars: Episode VII set in Pinewood studios in Buckingham, outside of London.

The veteran actor had been injured after a hydraulic door of the Millennium Falcon - a spacecraft prop he had piloted in the original films - had fallen on him.

According to South Central Ambulance Service, they were called at 4:24 p.m. from a report that a 71-year-old male had injured his ankle after a door had fallen on him.

Ford was immediately examined by medics on the M Stage set and was thereafter flown by air ambulance to John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford for further treatment.

Preliminary assessments showed that the actor had suffered a fracture in his ankle though results are still pending for other injuries possibly sustained from the accident.

An investigation on the incident is allegedly being carried out by the Health and Safety Executive.

It is unclear how long Ford will be out of commission due to his injury though "shooting will continue as planned," according to a statement released by franchise owner, Disney.

Harrison Ford will be starring in the J.J. Abrams directed movie, reprising his role as Han Solo. Original actors who will be appearing in the Disney franchise include Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Kenny Baker and Peter Mayhew.

Other actors in the movie are Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, John Boyega, Oscar Issac, and Lupita Nyong'o.

Although no details have yet been revealed on the story's plot, it is rumored to take off 30 years from 1983's Return of the Jedi, Daily Mail has learned.

Ford's latest released movie is Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. His next film - Expendables 3 - is due to be released in August with co-stars Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas and Mel Gibson.
