Phylicia Rashad Says Her Defense of Bill Cosby Was Misquoted

Tony Award winning actress Phylicia Rashad clearly set the record straight with regards to her comments as she came to former costar Bill Cosby's defense.

The actress, who starred as the matriarch in Cosby's family sitcom The Cosby Show, told David Muir in an exclusive interview on World News Tonight that she was rather misquoted in her interview with Roger Friedman, which appeared on Showbiz 411 column.

Friedmand quoted her saying: "Forget these women," which, to her, was inaccurate.

"That is not what I said," she said.

"What I said is, 'this is not about the women. This is about something else. This is about the obliteration of legacy,'" the 66-year-old actress clarified.

Rashad went on to saying that as a women, she could "never say such a thing."

However, she refused to comment on the barrage of accusations slapped on her former costar.

"I can't speak to those things and wouldn't want to," she said.

Rashad agreed on the interview after feminist lawyer Gloria Allred held a press conference Wednesday, where three more women stepped out to announce that Cosby also sexual assaulted them. But before she let the women made their respective statements, Allred had a few words on Rashad.

"Phylicia, you should be supporting these women," Allred called on the seasoned actress.

"Phylicia, if anyone did to you or to your daughter, your sister or your mother, what Cosby is alleged to have done to these women, I have no doubt that you would not be saying forget these women," she said in a matter-of-fact tone.
