Instead of going to Beijing from Chengdu, two China Eastern passengers ended up in jail for opening Flight MU2036's emergency exit on Saturday while the aircraft was already taxiing.

Opening the exit was their way of protesting the delay in departure because of a snow storm. Besides the delay, the passengers also complained of the lack of ventilation because the air-conditioning system was turned off as part of the de-icing process.

The flight was already delayed by seven hours when the crew started to de-ice at 3:45 a.m.

But one male passenger, identified only by his surname, Zhou, decided to delay the flight further by opening two emergency exits just as the jet was preparing for take-off from the Kunming Changshui International Airport.

The plane had to return, 25 passengers who belong to a tour group were ordered to stay for questioning, while the rest flew to Beijing in another aircraft.

Meanwhile, Zhou and Li, a tour guide, were detained for 15 days for opening the emergency doors and provoking the other travelers with wrong information.

This comes on the heels of last month's incident when a passenger pulled open the emergency exit of a Xiamen Airlines flight from Hangzhou to Chengdu so that he could get some "fresh air".

Just before that, another Chinese passenger activated the emergency slide of a plane in order to speed up the disembarcation process.

The growing list of air rage incidents also include throwing hot soup at a flight attendant, fighting over a crying baby and, of course, the most infamous of all - ordering the purser off the plane for serving macadamia nuts in a plastic bag and not on a plate.

MU2036 was not the only delayed flight; about 100 trips were canceled or delayed because of the snowy weather, but only in the Beijing-bound jet, with 153 passengers, was there a report of air rage translated into action, including quarreling with the crew over the de-icing.

Planes in China are prone to delay and the passenger anger happens not only inside the cabin but also outside such as in August 2012 when 31 travelers of a delayed flight forced their way into the tarmac and stayed on a taxiway for 30 minutes to prevent other aircraft from leaving.
