"There is not a person who won't show up for your gig." Keaton quipped as he gave thanks to Innaritu. He also thanked the director for letting him be "gutsy" in the movie.

In the middle of the speech, The 63 year old actor shares a part of his early family life. He remembers several household rules in his childhood that he has learned to live by.

"Work hard, don't quit, be appreciative, be grateful, be respectful, never whine and most of all, keep a sense of humor." Keaton said, defining that the points of his success were often inspired by family.

Keaton ended the speech by dedicating the award to his son, Sean Douglas, whom he described as a "thoughtful, kind and caring best friend."

"I love you with all my heart son." Keaton said, while shedding tears of gratitude.

The audience gave Keaton a warm applause.

In the movie, Keaton plays Riggan Thompson, a washed up Hollywood actor  who used to play an iconic superhero,Birdman. He tries to revive his career through reinvention by directing and starring in a play.  The film also stars Emma Stone, Edward Norton and Naomi Watts.

Most have considered "Birdman" as Keaton's return to film. This is a probable reference to "the art imitating life" aspect of the film.
