Anticipated Sequel for Avatar Movie Delayed Until 2017

"Avatar 2," one of the most anticipated sequels, is moving its official release to 2017.  Director James Cameron confirmed this via interview in New Zealand last Wednesday. Cameron also revealed the plan to film the sequels at one time and release the three movies over the consecutive years, Huffington Post reports.

The sequel's target date was supposed to be in 2016.

The director has expressed the fact that the initial target date was too "ambitious" and writing the three Avatar sequels was such a complex task. The process of writing proved to be very "involved".

"There's a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don't get when you're making a stand-alone film." Cameron said while in Wellington, New Zealand, trying to promote the local film industry with fellow directors such as Peter Jackson.

Cameron, also the leader of the writing team, stated that the target for completing all the three scripts together was within this month.

"We're writing three simultaneously. And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We're not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that. And parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments." Cameron further added.

Cameron emphasized the importance of each film being linked together in a satisfying way but would also come to a resolution wherein the audience will not be left hanging.

The films will be produced by Lightstorm Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox and will be shot in New Zealand, along with the succeeding sequels.
