Longoria plays Ana Maria, an ambitious star of a top-rated telenovela, but the drama offscreen is more intense than onscreen.

"Telenovela" is a comedic depiction of how Spanish telenovelas are made.

It was co-written and co-produced by former Cougar Town co-producers, Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein.

NBC discussed with its sister network, Telemundo, about doing a 4-5 minute segment in Spanish, which will be used to promote the series to Spanish speaking audiences.

"I'm beyond excited to come back to television in front of the camera! Hope you guys are watching!" Longoria tweeted while promoting the upcoming series via social media on Friday.

The series was developed by Longoria through her production company, UnbeliEVAble.

Since the conclusion of Desperate Housewives, Longoria ventured more into producing through her company. She also serves as the executive producer of Lifetime's Devious Maids.

Longoria's company sold nine projects during development season, including the medical drama Critical and the political drama Pair Of Aces.

The miniseries is slated to go on air this coming fall.
