They airlifted the baby to the Temple University Hospital and later moved to the St. Christopher's Hospital in Philadelphia. At that time, the infant was still breathing and alive. However, on Saturday morning, the child died, USA Today reports.

Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier, the 22-year-old mother of the burnt baby was arrested on Friday night, jailed on US$500,000 bail and charged on Saturday with murder, said Joel Bewley, spokesman of the Burlington County prosecutors' office.

Dorvilier is believed to have poured accelerant on her infant and then lit the baby. However, authorities do not know the motive whey she set her child on fire.

Other details about the case not yet given to the public include the baby's age, if Dorvilier has criminal records or was involved with child welfare officials since these are still being investigated, said Prosecutor Robert Bernardi.

A resident, Dave Joseph, witnessed the mother get out of the car and set something on fire in the middle of Simontown Road. When he approached Dorvilier, she said she was burning dog poop and even appeared calm, Fox News reports.

However, she attempted to leave the place, but the residents prevented her and called the police.
