Vince Wilfork, defensive tackle for the National Football League's (NFL) New England Patriots rescued the victim of a car crash on his way home from their victorious AFC Championship match against the Indianapolis Colts.

Police from Massachusetts said that they heard reports about a car crash on Route 1. It was near Foxborough early Monday morning.

When they went to respond to the call though, they found that the all-star Wilfork was already on the scene and doing what he could for the victims of the accident.

The police reported that they saw Wilfork trying to help the driver of a Jeep Wrangler get out of her car after it rolled over near the Gillette Stadium.

The victim was 38-year old Mary Ellen Brooks. She was stuck inside her vehicle until Trooper Kenneth Proulx assisted Wilfork by holding the Jeep door open. It was then that Wilfork reached in and lifted her out all with just one hand.

After freeing Brooks from the metal death trap of a vehicle, Wilfork understood that he could lend no more assistance and promptly left the scene of the accident.

According to a WCVB report last Monday, Wilfork said that the incident was something they saw and he knew that Brooks needed help. So they helped.

He adds that the good thing about it all is that they were able to get her to safety.

"The first thing I told her was 'don't panic.'  My job was to help the person in the car," he said.

After the incident though, Brooks was arrested by the Massachusetts State Police as she was driving under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

With the help of Wilfork, he was able to save a life and help his team head to the Super Bowl where they will be meeting with the Seattle Seahawks.
