With a helipad on the rooftop of the China World Trade Center built, China World Summit Wing hotel is ready to offer a helicopter taxi service to beat Beijing's massive traffic jam.

The service would benefit hotel guests to the airport and ski resorts and will soon launch the service pending approval by government. Ahead of securing the permit, the hotel had several pilot flights using a Bell 429 helicopter.

The chopper service will be operated by Reignwood Star General Aviation, which will charge passengers 60,000 yuan (US$9,649) for a ride from the hotel to the Great Wall's Badaling section. It is 150 times higher than cost of a chartered car rental at 400 yuan (US$64), reports the Wall Street Journal.

Seven passengers would fit into the Bell 429 chopper.

This early, a business rival looms for Reignwood even before it could get permit from government. Similar tours would be offered by Capital Helicopter at a lower cost of 100,000 yuan (US$16,100) for six riders or 16,667 yuan (US$2,683) per head.

If both companies secure the necessary permits and China wins its bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, the chopper rides are expected to be in demand during the competition.

However, the daily said that with the ongoing anti-corruption drive by Chinese President Xi Jinping, chances are government officials would not be seen riding those uber costly air trips.

To illustrate how bad could Beijing traffic get, in August 2010, commuters took 11 days to travel the 74.5-mile stretch of road. The event was dubbed The Great Crawl of China.
