Joining Cheung in the Singapore premieres is HK actress Carrie Ng, who plays Ka-Lai in the film that tells the story of a Cantonese opera troupe led by Zonghua (Cheung) that is harassed by malicious spirits ten days before the Hungry Ghost Festival.

All set for the horror flick’s premieres in July, Cheung said in a recent interview that winning a directorial award is not on top of his bucket list, according to Yahoo Singapore News.

"As an actor who has been in this industry for so many years, winning an award has never been my ultimate goal, let alone to win one as a new director,” the website quoted Cheung as saying.

The veteran actor, known for his roles in “Nightfall” and “The White Storm,” expressed confidence in Taiwanese actress Annie Liu who plays the lead female character in the film.

"I've seen her movies in recent years, and she is getting better and better each time. She works very seriously, and has expectations of herself!" Cheung said.

Completing the line up in Cheung’s directorial debut are Cathryn Lee (Yuan-Ling), Lam Wai, Chan Pui-Kong and Cheung Wai-Hung.

Cheung’s “Hungry Ghost Ritual” will be released in Hong Kong on July 10, 2014.
