Five-time Wimbledon champion Serena looks like she's going to cruise through her match against Cornet in the first set as she finishes the set in only 29 minutes 6-1.

24-year-old Cornet has defeated Serena earlier this year at Dubai and is quite capable of making a comeback. She rallied in the second set to claim it at 6-3.

The third set became increasingly in favor for Cornet as Serena made more unforced errors and double faulted numerous times that sealed the victory for Cornet with a final score of 1-6 6-3 6-4.

After the match, a Jubilant Cortez said: "If somebody would have told me a couple years ago that I would be in second week here in Wimbledon, beating Serena, I wouldn't have believed it. What a victory. It's the best way to get the second week."

"She kept her unforced errors really low," Williams said. "I think I made a few errors too many. You know, she was going for her shots ... she played really well today."

"I think everyone in general plays the match of their lives against me. So I'm pretty sure that the next match, it won't be the same," added Williams. "I just have to always, every time I step on the court, be a hundred times better."

Cornet will now face 20-year-old Canadian star Eugenie Bouchard in the fourth round that defeated Germany's Andrea Petkovic in two straight sets 6-3 6-4.

French Open winner Maria Sharapova cruised thru the fourth round as she defeated 6-3 6-0 and will now face German Angelique Kerber in the round of 16. And the winner of this match will face the winner of the Cortez-Bouchard match.
