Seattle Seahawks free safety Earl Thomas will be needing surgery for his torn labrum which is some cartilage surrounding the joint between humerus and the shoulder blade.

The Seahawks are coming off a Super Bowl battle with the New England Patriots. While the Seahawks were the defending champions and favored to win back-to-back championships, they fell short to the Patriots in a game that went down to the wire (28-24).

A week after the Super Bowl, reports are coming in that three of the four starters in the Seahawks' defensive backfield were playing with injuries during the big game. The latest to be reported was Thomas and his left shoulder.

David Mulugheta, agent of Thomas, confirmed the injury and the need for surgery in an email sent to the Associated Press on Thursday.

The injury came in within the first half of the NFC Championship game between the Green Bay Packers and the Seahawks. While the injury was sustained early, Thomas still came back in the second half and eventually win.

In the game against the Patriots, he was playing with a brace.

Injury was the inevitable consequence of Thomas' injury and true grit on the field.

Joining Thomas on the injured list is strong safety Kam Chancellor, as well as cornerback Richard Sherman. They all played with injuries against the Patriots.

Sherman has damaged ligaments on his left elbows which he also hurt during the NFC game.

Chancellor on the other hand played with a torn medical collateral ligament and a deep bone bruise in his left knee. His injury happened when he bumped knees with a teammate in practice a couple of days before the Super Bowl.

Initially, Chancellor said that he wasn't allowed to play against the Patriots.

However, Thomas, Chancellor, and Sherman played in every play for the Super Bowl. Whether that was the reason why the Seahawks inevitably loss is a point for debate.
