The law has finally caught up with Jean-Claude Savoie, owner of an African rock python that killed in August 2013 two young brothers in New Brunswick, Canada.

In a tweet on Thursday, Mandy Tercartin, the mother of the victims, 4-year-old Noah and 6-year-old Connor Barthe, said the apprehension of the snake owner is probably the reason why she had disturbing and repetitious dreams of her sons the past few nights, reports National Post.

The two boys slept at Savoie's house in Campbellton, New Brunswick where he kept the snake as pet. The Barthe boys were friends with Savoie's son and next-door neighbors. While they were all asleep, the 45-kilogram python escaped from its enclosure and killed the brothers.

The snake is part of Savoie's collection of animals as owner of zoo-turned-pet shop Reptile Ocean. The store is on the first floor, while the family residence is on the second floor.

Savoie, who said he treated the two boys like his own children, was unaware of what his pet did to the house guests and that the boys had died of asphyxiation. When he woke up, Savoie only discovered the Barthe brothers were not breathing.

He even attempted to kill the deadly snake after the incident, and police found his hands bloodied when they arrived at his house.

The incident led to a review of Canada's exotic animal laws.

Despite the tragedy, Savoie - who had moved to Quebec - has gained some sympathy in social media - because he followed the law in keeping the snake in an enclosure. But it broke free, slithered through the house's ventilation system and crashed through the room where the two boys slept.

No charges has been filed yet by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police against Savoie.
