Bong-Throwing Case Against Amanda Bynes is Dismissed

A New York judge dismissed the bong-throwing case against actress Amanda Bynes on Monday after she heeded order to stay out of trouble and undergo counseling.

In 2013, 28-year-old Bynes was charged with reckless endangerment, tampering physical evidence and criminal marijuana possession. She was reported by the Manager of the Manhattan building where she lives, who claimed that Bynes was smoking pot in the building’s lobby.

According to police, the former child star threw a bong out the window when they barged in to her 36th-floor apartment.

She did not appear at the hearing at Manhattan Criminal Court but her lawyer was present to hear the New York’s judge’s decision. The court had said that the charges would be dismissed if Bynes would agree to stay out of trouble for six months and undergo counselling for two weeks.

After the bong-throwing incident in Manhattan, Bynes also had a series of other legal issues. She went to an in-patient rehab program, and later enrolled in a fashion design program at a local college.

"She did her counselling and it's now all behind her," Gerald Shargel, Byne’s lawyer, said in an interview outside the courtroom.

Earlier this year, she pleaded no contest to an April 2012 alcohol-related reckless driving in Los Angeles County. Bynes was given a three-year probation and was asked to undergo an alcohol education program for three months.

Bynes also received psychiatric treatment in 2013 after police officers said she started a small fire in the driveway of a California home.
