Third baseman, shortstop, and power hitter Alex Rodriguez set up a meeting last Tuesday with his long-time baseball organization, the New York Yankees, in order to formally apologize for his actions over the past several years.

In a joint statement released by both the Yankees and Rodriguez, it was revealed that the meeting at Yankee Stadium was between Hal Steinbrenner, Randy Levine, Brian Cashman, Jean Afterman, Jim Sharp, and Rodriguez.

When Rodriguez initiated the meeting, it was an opportunity for an open discussion to take place regarding the issues.

With that out of the way, they also stated that as far as the Yankees are concerned, their next concern is on playing baseball in spring training.

Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York said that the Yankees want another meeting with the media that would also help clear the air. It is reported to take place on February 29.

At 39 years old, Rodriguez has spent numerous years playing for the Yankees.

Currently though, he is suspended for the entire 2014 season due to his involvement with performance enhancing drug (PED) supplier Tony Bosch and his clinic Biogenesis.

Initially, Rodriguez denied having used any PEDs. However, the story soon changed as he then admitted that he received some from Bosch.

It seems that the issues are now behind both the team and Rodriguez. He is scheduled to join the Yankees for spring training late this month.

Rodriguez's contract - signed in 2007 - is still in effect for a few more seasons. Throughout the following seasons, the Yankees owe Rodriguez a minimum of US $64 million.

The next three seasons will be the last of Rodriguez's 10-year, $275 million deal.

With more playing time, Rodriguez has the chance to earn even more money if he moves up the all-time home runs list. For every player he passes on the list, he stands to earn an additional $6 million.

However, the Yankees are prepared to file a grievance to avoid paying those bonuses due to his past PED use.
