Experts Say Brian Williams’ Career is Over for Good

Is Brian Williams' career over? At NBC it is! Experts believe that the six-month suspension handed to him was the network's way of firing the anchor.

It was announced on Tuesday that NBC is suspending Brian for six months without pay due to his fabricated stories and claims that he was in an Army Chinook helicopter that got hit during the Iraq war in 2003.

Chief executive of NBC Universal, Stephen Burke revealed in a statement, "By his actions, Brian has jeopardized the trust millions of Americans place in NBC News. His actions are inexcusable and this suspension is severe and appropriate."

He continued, "I know Brian loves his country, NBC News, and his colleagues. He deserves a second chance and we are rooting for him. Brian has shared his deep remorse with me and he is committed to winning back everyone's trust."

However, according to TV analysts, as well as industry experts, it is highly unlikely that Brian will ever be able to redeem himself and return as an anchor and the managing editor of the Nightly News show. His credibility was under constant attack until he was handed the suspension and as reported by The Daily Beast, TV news analyst Andrew Tyndall even thinks that "He's not going to read the teleprompter at NBC ever again."

Six months without any salary technically means that he has been penalized US$5 million. While some people have complained about Brian only getting a suspension after consistently lying about the news, the gravity of the suspension, were for some, enough evidence that Brian will have a hard time getting his position back.

Six months without pay means Williams has effectively been fined US$5 million. And with the six-month sentence, it seems impossible for Brian to make amends with the things he's done wrong.

As what an anonymous NBC News veteran explained to The Daily Beast, "What NBC just did, by handing down this kind of six-month sentence, really prevents Brian from redeeming himself in any kind of expedient way. Don't we agree that when you make a mistake, you correct it immediately, in the world we live in now? What is Brian going to do for the next six months?"

While the president of NBC's news division, Deborah Turness didn't say anything certain about Brian's future in the network, in a note she sent to all of the NBC staff, she believes that Brian's exaggerated stories are "wrong and completely inappropriate."

As for who will replace Brian William on the Nightly News, Deborah said that news anchor Lester Holt will fill in for Brian for the meantime, while they try to decide who will replace Brian for the longer term. Sources report that they are considering Savannah Guthrie and Josh Elliott.
