People who know Beck's hit song "Loser" in 1994 will know how big Beck used to be in the alternative and rock genre. And while many of his fans know how worthy the singer and multi-instrumentalist is for winning Album of the Year, there are also a lot of people who are wondering why he won over Queen Bey or Sam Smith. In fact, Kanye West was so disappointed with his win that he stormed up the stage and attempted to interrupt his acceptance speech.

Beck's 2014 album "Morning Phase" winning Album of the Year came as a surprise to many. People expected Beyoncé to take home the award especially after getting six nominations, but the most coveted award went to Beck, leaving Beyoncé's fans, Kanye included, shocked and upset.

However, what many might not know, Beck is an accomplished artist, celebrating his first hit track in the US top 10 when Beyoncé was just 12 years old. And he proved that he is an artist to watch out for when he successfully released another hit album called "Odelay."

Beck is admired by many for his unique talents and capabilities. Not only does he sing and write his own songs, but in his album, "Morning Phase," he played all of the musical instruments involved. Beck is in fact so impressive that music critic Jim Harrington described his album as "the most complete album."

Matthew Perpetua, a Twitter user, even compared Beck's success to director Martin Scorsese's extremely long overdue Oscar victory when he finally won the Best Director award for the movie The Departed, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg. The 44-year old musician's win came 20 years after his biggest hit albums "Odelay" and "Midnight Vultures" were released.

It's totally understandable why many were disappointed that Beyoncé didn't win. Not only is she married to one of the most powerful names in the music industry but she is also at the peak of her career. As of today, Beyoncé is the most nominated woman in Grammy history.

Her album Beyoncé was released without any warning, marketing or promotion but still was able to nab the number two spot for best-selling record of the year.

According to CNN, "Compared to the energy of the dance tunes on those albums, Beck's record is a snoozefest. But Beck's was the only rock record (it's more folk-rock, really) in the category, giving him a potential edge among the academy's bloc of voters who grew up on, say, Bob Dylan."
