Cisco Joins India’s Videocon d2h to Deploy Advanced Video Services

Multinational networking giant Cisco Systems, Inc. announced Thursday it has won a contract with Indian Satellite Television Company Videocon d2h to deploy advanced video solutions from its Videoscape product platform.

The collaboration between the two will enable Videocon d2h to deliver high quality television viewing experience to its customers in India.

"We pride ourselves in being a frontrunner in bringing futuristic technologies to India, some of which are yet to be experienced in even the most advanced countries." said Saurabh Dhoot, Director of Videocon d2h.

"Our collaboration with Cisco will present our customers with the latest and best technology in the DTH industry and will introduce them to a whole new range of next-gen applications."

Both intend to develop an infrastructure that supports advanced video services such as 4K, VOD (Video on Demand), OTT (Over the Top), multi-screen video and multi-room DVR (Digital Video Recorder).

Established in 2009, Videocon d2h is one of the largest pay TV providers in India. It provides direct-broadcast satellite television service, also known as direct-to-home (DTH) service, to over 12.6 million subscribers.

Cisco's Videoscape platform offers consumers consistent video experiences across many devices such as TVs, PCs, tablets, smartphones and game consoles.

Videoscape's original developer, NDS Group, was acquired by the networking giant in 2012.
