To raise money for the Children's Tumor Foundation, Detroit held on Saturday its annual Cupid's Undie Run in winter condition.

According to Mlive.com, about 1,200 people came and stripped to their underwear, screaming as they ran a half-mile through Foxtown.

To battle the chilly atmosphere, described by John Marcicky, the race director, as a nippy day, there were medical staff who had Mylar emergency blankets, hot chocolate and hot meals, and a coat check for runners, reports Detroit Free Press.

The run offers eye candy as participants, despite the extreme cold, come only in their Spandex or long underwear under their Cupid costumes.

The runners raised almost $200,000, but more donations are expected to come by Saturday afternoon for the run to reach its goal of raising $250,000.

Marcicky described Saturday's run as a great turnout, despite the colder temperature compared to 2014. When the Undie Run held its first Detroit run in 2013, it raised about $130,000 with about 500 runners, which grew to $200,000 from 1,000 participants in 2014.

The money would help battle neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that hits the body's nervous system and affects cell formation and growth, resulting in tumors that form along nerves throughout the body. The National Institute of Health estimates there are 3,000 to 4,000 people worldwide who are suffering from neurofibromatosis, which causes pain, blindness, convulsions and learning disability.

The first Cupid Undie Run was held in Washington D.C. in 2010 and the number of participating cities has reached 38, while total amount raised in 2014 reached $2.8 million.

The National Weather Service forecast for Saturday was temperatures into their 20s, but meteorologist Sara Schultz warned of Arctic air coming in behind the cold front. From temperatures between 25 and 35 degrees caused by wind gusts of up to 40 mph, the mercury is expected to plummet up to -8, which would likely increase to 3 degrees by Sunday morning.

These weather conditions are conducive to frostbite, which can freeze tissue and in a worst-case scenario may require limb amputation if the flesh turns black and dies, warns Dr. Rachel Rohde, an orthopedic surgeon at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.
