Defending women's doubles champions Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-wei may have been eliminated already but China still has a representative that has a shot at the Wimbledon crown.

Jie Zheng and partner Czech Andrea Hlavackova are still in the fight as they defeated the tandem of Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Czech Lucie Safarova in the quarterfinals.

Safarova just lost her singles' semi-final match against Canada's Eugenie Bouchard and the loss may have an effect in her performance as the Russian-Czech pair quickly lost the set 6-1.

Birthday girl Pavlyuchenkova took charge in the second set to boost Safarova's morale and eventually winning it 6-4 to put the match into over-time.

But it seems Safarova played one game to many as Zheng and Hlavackova ended their Wimbledon stint with a final score in favor of the Czech-Chinese duo 6-1 4-6 6-3.

No.9 seeds Zheng and Hlavackova will now face French Open runner's-up Italian's Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci in the semi-finals.

The Italian's made their way to the semis by defeating last year's Wimbledon 2nd placer Australians Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua.

This is Zheng and Hlavackova's first Grand Slam together and first semi-finals appearance as well.

Zheng, 30, has been struggling in finding a new doubles' partner for a number of years having started in the doubles with long-time partner Yan Zi, also from China.

Zheng and Zi won two Grand Slam titles together, the 2006 Australian Open and the Wimbledon also in 2006. The team parted ways in 2009 and that's when Zheng started looking for a doubles' partner.

Zheng had a series of doubles' partners including Chan Yung-Jan of Chinese Taipei and half of the defending doubles' champion Peng Shuai.

In last year's Wimbledon, her partner was American Vania King. They reached the third round before bowing out to the pair of Russian Nadia Petrova and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia.

Will the team of Zheng and Hlavackova last since they reach the semi-finals in just their first Grand Slam tournament?

In last year's U.S. Open, Zheng reached the semi-finals with Sania Mirza of India. They lost the semis to Australians Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua. The eventual winners of the women's doubles U.S. Open happens to be, who else? Hlavackova along with fellow countrywoman Lucie Hradecka.
