Katy Perry Sued by Christian Singers Over Dark Horse

Katy Perry

Christians singers from Missouri filed a case this week against Katy Perry’s 'Dark Horse'. They claimed that Perry totally ripped off their song, 'Joyful Noise', and made a negative impression by associating it with black magic and witchcraft.

Christian rapper Flame, along with other singers, filed copyright infringement against Perry and Capitol Records in St. Louis federal court last July 1.

The lawsuit claims that the singer behind 'Fireworks' and 'California Dream' ripped off the Christian singers’ track, then exploiting while making a profit out of it. It also claim the Dark Horse gave them a bum rap.

The Christian group says that the 29-year-old singer ruined their reputation in the Christian music world because of the association with anti-Christian witchcraft, paganism and alike as seen in Dark Horse’s music video.

Courthouse News, an online news service subscribed to by law firms, released a snippet of the suit stating that Joyful Noise has been damaged by the association with black magic and Illuminati imagery as heard in the music of Perry’s Dark Horse.

There are no specific details as to how Joyful Noise was used in Katy Perry’s Dark Horse. However, the Christian performers said that there was a repeating music pattern in Perry’s song which is totally similar with theirs.

The Christian group of Flame filed the case for damages and to stop Katy Perry from using any of their music.

Joyful Noise is from the 2008 album Our World: Redeemed and was nominated in Grammy Awards for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album. Dark Horse appears on Katy Perry’s Album Prism in 2013.

No statement has been released by Perry’s camp.
