The counter-terrorism operation, which was still ongoing, also resulted to the capture of several Boko Haram militants, their weapons and several equipment.

The cordon and search operations are continuing with patrols by troops who have dominated some cleared communities," said Olukolade.

He added that the air and land operation is continuing with aggressive advance toward other designated communities and locations meant to be cleared in the ongoing offensive against the terrorists.

The latest operation by the Nigerian military against Boko Haram is coming on the heels according to the agreement reached by regional leaders from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger to adopt a coordinated response to the group which has killed about 13,000 people and displaced over one million others.

The African regional bloc vowed to provide US$100 million to combat Boko Haram and establish an initial 7,500 troops to fight the insurgents.

The leaders of Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) agreed provide Cameroon and Chad with an emergency aid of 50 billion FCFA (about US$100 million) to combat Boko Haram.

The summit was attended by six presidents of ECCAS countries, including Cameroonian President Paul Biya, Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno, Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Gabonese President Ali Bongo, Congolese President Deniss Sassou Nguesso and Central African Republic provisional President Catherine Samba-Panza.

"Everyone will contribute according to his ability, but the most important thing is to set up these fund quickly to deal with the situation," said General Allam-Mi, secretary of the ECCAS.

In retaliation, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau vowed to disrupt Nigeria's general election in a new video, after two suicide attacks in northeastern Nigeria blamed on the group killed 38 people.
