A new study says each minute of physical activity may contribute toward a reduced risk of heart attack and death from heart-related problems for adults.

The research team said even engaging in low-intensity activity may have heart benefits for seniors with mobility problems. It's among the best ways to improve heart health along with lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease and its complications.

Over a 10-year period, scientists profiled the risk of heart diseases in senior citizens. The study found that the risk of heart disease increases with time when seniors are inactive for more days. It was seen the more active seniors are, the risk is reduced.

"If you can spend less of your time being sedentary and just incorporate more activity - even light activity - in your day that can translate to benefits," said senior author of the study Thomas Buford of University of Florida in Gainesville.

According to Buford, many studies recommend physical activities in older people that are of vigorous intensity. But for the people who have trouble getting-up and moving around, these activities become very unrealistic.

For this research, data was utilized from national trial that formerly checked the effect of physical activity in older adults between 70 and 89 years-old having problem with moving and retaining their positions.

An accelerometer reading of 99 counts a minute or less was considered sedentary behavior, while a reading of 100-499 counts a minute indicated slow walking or light housekeeping. A reading of 500 counts a minute or more indicated moderate walking or activities of similar intensity.

The study found that being inactive in a day increases the risk of heart disease by one percent. The risk was found to be lower with the same percent for every minute spent in being active; even it's about moving in the house.
