Microsoft Corp is gearing up for the official launch of its game console, the Xbox One, in China after receiving the China Compulsory Certification (3C), the final hurdle for its entry in the country that has banned games consoles for 14 years.

Experts, however, said it will not be an easy and smooth road that the Xbox One will be trudging in China because most of the Chinese gamers are not familiar with gaming consoles and China's gaming market is dominated by PC-based and mobile device-based games.

"It will take time for Microsoft to educate the market that has not played console game for 14 years," said Analysys International analyst Gu Haoyi.

The official website of the China Quality Certification Center announced that it has issued the 3C to Microsoft's Xbox. The 3C is a security requirement for all products sold in China. The Xbox One 3C license is valid until 3 June, 2019.

The certification came three months after the Seattle-based software giant announced that it will bring the Xbox One to China in September through a partnership with BesTV New Media Co. The announcement followed China's lifting for a 14-year ban on the gaming consoles.

It was only in January that the Chinese government had decided to lift the ban. Game consoles were not allowed in China due to concerns that the games could damage the mental health of the young Chinese gamers because of the violent and inappropriate contents.

However, China's State Council clarified that foreign enterprises can only make gaming consoles within the free trade zone in China and can only sell these products in the country after getting approval from cultural departments.

Video game console makers Sony Corp, Microsoft and Nintendo Co welcomed the decision of China's cabinet as they hoped to cash in on the country's growing video game market. China's video game market reached US $13.74 billion last year, up 38% from 2012.

Gu, meanwhile, said Microsoft's Xbox One will surely gain popularity among the Chinese gamers but only if it available at prices similar to gaming consoles that are available through the black market.
