The verdict on the pimping charges against former International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn will be handed down on June 12 this year, the court in Lille, France announced after ending the three-week trial on the case.

Strauss-Kahn will face a 10-years jail term if he will be found guilty of aggravated pimping. But latest developments show the evidence against the former IMF boss may be weakening.

Five of the six plaintiffs have withdrawn their charges against Strauss-Kahn.

The public prosecutor assigned to the case had also moved for Strauss-Kahn's acquittal.

Prosecutor Frederic Fevre had said no evidence had come out during the hearings to prove that the ex-IMF head is guilty of procuring prostitutes for sex parties he attended in Paris, Brussels and Washington. The legal system in France takes pride in never convicting a person, when there is doubt on the veracity of the accusations filed against him, Fevre added.

Even before the trial began, Fevre had been asking the court to drop the case against Strauss-Kahn. But his recommendation was overruled by judges, who decided that the case must go to trial.

In France, the prosecutor usually argues the case built by the court against the accused. The prosecution can contradict the view of the court but in the end, the decision lies with the judges.

The promulgations on cases usually come out just weeks after the end of the trial.

Prior to the sex scandal, the 65-year-old Strauss-Kahn was regarded as a strong contender for the French presidency.

The court proceedings have exposed many lurid details about his colorful sex life. Fevre, however, cautioned that although the former IMF boss may have gained a notorious image after his private sex escapades were revealed, this should not in any way lead to the court's presumption of guilt.

The prosecutor maintained Strauss-Kahn had not engaged in any pimping activities.
