Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson Diagnosed with Tongue Cancer

Iron Maiden's lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson is currently undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with tongue cancer, as announced by the band on their website last Thursday.

Fortunately, the cancer was caught early and Bruce was able to complete seven weeks of radiation treatment and chemotherapy. The announcement said that the singer is expected to have a full recovery.

"Bruce is doing very well considering the circumstances and the whole team are very positive," the announcement concluded.

The announcement revealed how the singer found out about having the disease and it was when he went to his doctor for a simple routine check up. After the usual biopsies and tests, the doctor found a small, malignant tumor located at the back of his tongue.

The announcement said that since the tumor was found in the early stages, the course of the disease is highly likely to be treatable, adding that his medical team expects him to fully recover "with the all-clear envisaged by late May."

The band asked for the fans' patience and respect for Bruce, as well as his family, while Bruce recovers and informed everyone that they will give updates by the end of May.

Their announcement was followed by a lot of encouraging and reassuring messages from Iron Maiden fans with one tweet by @aboutRC saying "Give em hell, Bruce!!" with a link to the band's Run to the Hills song.

Bruce, who is also a commercial airline pilot, joined the English heavy metal band in the 1980s. Some of the band's hit tracks include The Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills.

Just last year, they announced that their former drummer Clive Burr, who suffered from multiple sclerosis, has died in his home in March. He was 56 at the time.
