Columba Bush reportedly spent US$42,311 in a one-day shopping spree for a Bulgari diamond bracelet, an incident might hurt the chances of her husband, Jeb Bush, the Republicans' possible frontrunner for the 2016 Presidential elections.

According to reports, Columba took out a loan of the said amount from a jeweler in Florida in order to purchase the bracelet along with other items. This is the first time that Columba is put on the spotlight again she has always put on a low profile when her husband was in office as the governor from 1999 to 2007.

However, back in 1999, she failed to declare a US$19,000 purchase in a shopping spree in Paris and it had damaged Jeb's political standing.

In the report filed by Mayors Jewelers of Miami, Columba took out a total of US$90,000 for the last 15 years and her recent shopping spree includes a Rolex watch worth US$ 11,700 plus a pair of earring that cost US$9,500.

Although Bush has not yet formally announced that he will be running for office, the news about his wife will hurt his chances of winning since her jewelry collection might be seen as a negative thing. Also, she is known for not wanting her husband to run for politics again.

Still, the shopping spree should not be seen as a threat because it is not as a significant liability as Jeb is known by the public as frugal and economical, analysts explain.

Hillary Clinton, another potential presidential candidate, has been in the same position since she is known to spend as much as US$200,000 in a shopping spree.
