Apple will use these facilities to host its services including the App Store, iTunes Store, iMessage, Maps and Siri for the company's European consumers.

"We are grateful for Apple's continued success in Europe and proud that our investment supports communities across the continent," said Apple CEO Tim Cook,.

"This significant new investment represents Apple's biggest project in Europe to date. We're thrilled to be expanding our operations, creating hundreds of local jobs and introducing some of our most advanced green building designs yet,"

The tech giant said the facilities will be powered using 100 percent renewable energy and will have the lowest environmental impact yet compared to the company's other data centers.

With the new data facilities, Cook said hundreds of new jobs will be created in these areas. The company's largest data center covers about 500,000 square feet of space and is located in Maiden, North Carolina, U.S.
