Giuliana Rancic Says She Feels Zendaya “Smells Like Weed,” Zendaya Fights Back

Young singer-actress Zendaya is upset with the comments made by E! News host Giuliana Rancic.

Last Monday night, on the show "Fashion Police," Giuliana poked fun at Zendaya's hair, which she sported at the recently concluded Oscars and said that she feels like Zendaya smells like patchouli oil or weed.

However, the "Zapped" actress did not take it too well and took to her Instagram to deal with the comments, although she did not name Giuliana directly.

In a screenscapped photo of a long text, Zendaya wrote an intelligent response to Giuliana's comments about her hair, she started her response by making it clear that there's a thin line between what's supposed to be funny and plain disrespectful. And went on to say that somebody made a comment about her dread-locked hairstyle at the 87th Academy Awards that stunned her. And it was not because she got a lot of rave reviews about it but because she received ignorant remarks and was disrespected.

She called out Giuliana by saying that to say that someone with locs might "smell of patchouli oil or weed" is a huge stereotype and seriously offensive. She explained that she does not usually like responding to negative comments but some particular comments simply can't go unconstrained.

Zendaya also named a few famous people who sport dread locks, whom she totally admires and respects. She mentioned her father and brother, Ava DuVernay, Terry McMillan and Ledisi and pointed out that what they all have in common are "locs, none of which smell of marijuana."

In her post, she reminded people that Afrian American hair is widely criticized in our society, and her decision to sport locs at the Oscars was her way to "remind people of color that their hair is good enough."

She concluded her response by suggesting that people listen to "I Am Not My Hair" by Indie Arie and to reflect before judging other people.

It was also last Monday night when Giuliana heard about or seen Zendaya's post. She took to Twitter to address Zendaya directly and said, "Dear @Zendaya, I'm sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!"
