The Taliban has claimed responsibility on the suicide bombing attack on a Turkish Embassy vehicle on Thursday in the busy streets of Kabul.

The incident, which happened outside the Iranian Embassy, killed a Turkish soldier and the bomber himself.

"The target was a Turkish Embassy vehicle," said Afghanistan Deputy Interior Minister Mohammad Ayub Salangi.

The casualties were also confirmed by Kabul Police Chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi.

In a press statement sent through text message, the Taliban claimed that the target of the suicide bombing was a convoy of US troops.

There were media speculations that the convoy was supposed to pick-up NATO Ambassador Ismail Aramaz, who was staying then at the Turkish Embassy.

"A car bomb attack has been carried out on the vehicle of the security team of Turkish envoy Ismail Aramaz," said by the Turkish military.

Taliban Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid also tweeted, "the purpose of the attack in Kabul was a convoy of US troops. The embassy or any other country nationals were not the targets."

On board a Toyota car, the suicide bomber rammed the Turkish Embassy vehicle and detonated himself.

Accordingly, the suicide car was also packed with explosives.

The explosion caused a heavy black smoke outside the Iranian Embassy, which is adjacent to the embassies of Turkey and Germany.

Although it was the first time that the Turkish Embassy was the target, still the incident sparked fear in the populace since this is the second time that a car bomb exploded in Kabul this year.

In January, a suicide car bomb exploded near the airport of Kabul which killed one person.

In November 2014, a suicide bomber also rammed his vehicle to a British Embassy car parked along a street in Kabul. The incident left five people dead, including a British national.
