Houston Man Looking for Estranged Wife Kills Four Children, Two Adults

Texas shooting

Ron Lee Haskell  killed four children and two adults execution-style in a rampage in Spring, Texas Wednesday, and was heading towards another home where he could have hurt other relatives of his estranged wife when police intercepted him.

Neighbors of the victims could not understand why Haskell, 34, committed the dastardly crime, but police and court records now show that he had earlier abused his wife, as far back as 2008, and even duct-taped his own mother to a computer chair, and choked her until she passed out.

Haskell is divorced from Melanie Kaye Haskell, the divorce possibly as on offshoot of his violent acts that led to a string of complaints and restraining orders, including the most recent one filed by his mother.

Melanie Kaye filed for divorce on Valentine's Day.

Mrs. Karla Jeanne Haskell, 61, told police July 3 that she wanted a restraining order against her own son after he forced her into a garage, bound her wrists with duct tape, and taped her to a computer chair.

The mother said Ron Haskell was angry at her because she was talking to his estranged wife.

In 2008, Haskell's wife complained of domestic assault when he dragged her by the hair out of their children's bedroom, and punched her several times in the head and face.

He was booked on that charged, but made bail and was released after a few hours.

In the Spring, Texas shooting, a 15-year-old girl who called 911 and gave police the suspect's identity remains in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head.

While being wheeled to a helicopter to be taken to a hospital, she gave police other details of the incident, including a tip on where Haskell planned to go next.

Police, who would not give the names of minor victims, said the girl was the first to encounter the suspect, telling him his estranged wife was not there.

Haskell then kicked the door open, tied up the children, and waited for the adults.

When Stephen, 39, and Katie Stay, 33, arrived, that was when Haskell started firing; investigators said the victims were made to lie on the floor, and shot with a pistol.

Haskell is being held on a charge of capital murder and will make his first court appearance Friday morning.

Haskell used to drive for Fed-Ex, the delivery service, but a company spokeswoman said he has not been working there since January.
