With little less than two seasons under his belt, the Denver Nuggets have fired head coach Brian Shaw Tuesday.

Throughout his time on the job, Shaw has amassed a total record of 56 wins and 85 losses. That includes his 20-39 record in the current National Basketball Association (NBA) season.

The Nuggets team holds the third worst record in the Western Conference.

Currently, the Nuggets are on a six-game skid and will be facing the Milwaukee Bucks without Shaw.

Melvin Hunt will step into Shaw's shoes and take the reins as the team's interim coach for the rest of the season.

The separation was not a hostile one though, according to general manager Tim Connelly. In astatement, he sincerely thanked Shaw for his time with the organization.

"You won't find a better guy than Brian and he is one of the brightest basketball minds I've ever seen around," said Connelly.

He adds that unfortunately, things did not go as planned on court, but Connelly is confident that Shaw will have a bright future ahead of him with his basketball acumen.

Before he got fired, Shaw's main concern was that his players might have already been giving up on the season.

In an interview with The Denver Post, he said that it is harder to try to lose than to put the effort to win in the first place.

Shaw's idea could be confirmed from an incident after a Nuggets game against the Utah Jazz. Players from the Nuggets were heard counting the number of weeks until the season is up.

Shaw came in after longtime coach George Karl gained a franchise record of 57 won games in the 2012-2013 season.

Upon hearing the news though, Karl - now coach of the Sacramento Kings - said he took no pleasure on hearing it.
