Some Indians could no longer take the wanton attitude of male rapists as exemplified by the bus driver in a BBC documentary who blamed the victim and even insisted that women being raped should not resist but should submit their body to the rapist.

Although the 35-year-old used car trader jailed in Dimapur City is not the same person, he nevertheless is also accused of rape of a female student on February 24 several times. He was arrested the next day, reports AP.

He has not been convicted of the crime and will never be because mob justice took its course, as the angry crowd stormed the prison, overpowered the guard, stripped naked the alleged rapist, dragged him four miles, stoned and beat him to death.

The lynching was preceded by a mass protest rally against the rape before the crowd tore the two gates of the jail and dragged him to Dimapur's clock tower, reports Daily Mail.

Some of the mob even took photos and videos of the lynching and posted it on social media.

Indian police used batons and later open fired when the mob threw stones on the cops.

After the crowd finally dispersed, the police took the dead mangled body of the alleged rapist.

The crowd also allegedly burned houses and businesses in the area, where the alleged rapist had his shop.

The incident was discussed in social media with some commenters saying what happened would hopefully deter rapes, while other said that more than half of the rape accusations in India are false.

Recent high-profile cases of rapes had resulted in the crafting of tougher laws on rape, but sexual assault on women continue as many males, because of the general lower social status of females in Indian society, continue to expect women to be submissive to their sexual needs whether these females are their wives, girlfriends, relatives or any random woman they see.
