Cayman Naib, Missing 13-Year-Old Delaware Boy, Found Dead in Darby Creek

The search for Cayman Naib, the 13-year-old boy whose dimples and shock of dark hair have become familiar in Delco, has finally ended but on a sad note as rescuers found him dead, with his body nearly completely covered in snow in a creek in Delaware County.

The eight-grader left home Wednesday night but failed to come back before the season's worst snowstorm struck.

Naib's parents, Farid Naib and Becky Malcolm-Naib, said their son left 30 minutes after getting an email from his school about overdue homework.

His body was found lying in a shallow part of Darby Creek, a few hunder yards from his Newtown Square home.

Authorities theorized that Naib may have fallen.

The search for Naib, who was described as thoughtful, bright and fun-loving teen, involved almost the entire community and hundreds joined authorities in braving bitter cold just to find him alive.

Thousands more followed days of search in news reports and on social media, expressing hopes and optimism that the missing Delco teen be found alive.

"We all wanted a different outcome," said Mark G. Hopkins, chief of Greater Philadelphia Search and Rescue, which Newtown Square Township police had brought in.

Hopes and optimism turned into sadness and tears, as tearful parents and classmates from the Shiply School in Bryn Mawr, which Naib attended, gathered at a candlelight vigil after hearing the news about the boy's death.

Naib's body was found by the K-9 search-and-rescue team. He was lying near a high fieldstone wall from which he was believed to have fallen.

Hopkins said only part of Naib's boots and his backside were visible in the deep snow and ankle-deep water.

"There was no obvious sign of trauma" before the body was removed from the snow, Hopkins said.
