The capital city of Manila in the Philippines has been placed on highest alerts as typhoon Rammasun approaches even strengthening to a Category 3.

Typhoon Rammasun, also known as Glenda, has further strengthened with maximum sustained winds of up to 125 mph (185 kph) with wind gusts of up to 155 mph. It has also increased its movement travelling west north-west at a speed of 16 mph.

As the day breaks, Bicol region is left without power, roads impassable and light houses torn down. Damages are being assessed at this moment.

The storm had just past Lucena city in the Quezon province and has left major highways impassable as large trees lay in its path. The whole province is also without power and mobile signals are almost to none.

Rammasun is currently in the vicinity of the Cavite province en route to Manila and expected to arrive 8 am local time. The whole province is also without power.

The diameter of the storm is 300 miles wide and covers a significant part of the Luzon Island but it will decrease its strength once it reaches Manila.

Rammasun passed the northern part of the Samar province early Tuesday and was struck by wind gusts of up to 150 mph, uprooting trees, bringing floods, storm surges with waves of up to 20 feet, stranding passengers, causing landslides and power outages.

No immediate casualties have been reported but three fishermen were declared missing after they failed to return to shore in the Sorsogon province.

After ravaging thru Metro Manila, the storm will then traverse thru the provinces of Bulacan, Bataan and Pampanga before exiting in the vicinity of Iba, Zambales. It will then move in the direction of north-northwest towards the borders of Vietnam and mainland China.

The typhoon would have significantly decreased its strength after exiting land but as it travels through open waters it will then increase its strength again and is expected to reach a Category 4 cyclone and may be a super typhoon by the time it reaches land again somewhere in the vicinity of Wenchang in the Hainan province of China late this week.
