Is 'Homefront: The Revolution' Vaporware? Deep Silver Says No

The  first "Homefront" game was all about Americans fighting a Korean occupation force.

While Homefront wasn't a spectacular success, the market response was enough to encourage the game developer to create a sequel -- Homefront: The Revolution.

Unfortunately, Homefront: The Revolution was sold to Crytek after game owner THQ fell into bankruptcy. Crytek itself got into financial trouble do they resold Homefront: The Revolution to Deep Silver.

The developer of Homefront: The Revolution, Crytek UK, was retained and renamed Deep Silver Dambuster Studios.

The website for the game title is still up but hasn't mentioned any official launch date. The game is supposed to come out this year.

The recent financial troubles faced by the former game owners may, however, cause delays in the release of Homefront: The Revolution.

In fact, the lack of updates from the game publisher and developer about Homefront: The Revolution led many to believe the game has turned into vaporware.

Deep Silver Community Manager Maurice Tan disagrees. In a NeoGAF blog post, she wrote Homefront: The Revolution is still being developed by Dambuster Studios.

She adds that the Homefront: The Revolution won't suffer the same fate as "Prey 2" or "Duke Nukem Forever."  She assures fans of the game that "Dambuster is still working hard on the game and it's not going to be vaporware."

The story line in Homefront: The Revolution starts in Philadelphia which has been under brutal Korean occupation for four years.

Players will lead a guerrilla movement to fight the better armed Koreans. The official site describes the game as an open world first person shooter.

This is a complete departure from the gameplay of the original Homefront game, which has a linear single campaign mode. Homefront: The Revolution will also have co-op multiplayer mode.

Homefront: The Revolution is slated to be released for the PC, PS 4 and Xbox One.
