Review: Verdict on 'Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number'; a Bloodier and Better Sequel

Devolver Digital has just released "Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number" for the Windows PC, PS 4 and PS Vita.

Game reviewers find the second installment to be much more violent and sometimes disturbing.  Hotline Miami 2 does offer a very different and much better gameplay than the original, however.

Make no mistake, you still get to kill as many enemies as you can but the chances of you dying before finishing your bloody mission has gotten higher.

The game still features the 1990s grungy look with mid-80s scenes thrown in for good measure.  The storyline involves plenty of alternate and twisted history and involves people from the past, gangsters, fanatics, drugs and war.

The soundtrack of the original game was quite good but the music on Hotline Miami 2 has been enhanced. It complements the sound of violence you inflict on your enemies.

Another noticeable change in this second installment is the increase in size of the levels.  The first Hotline Miami fighting was confined to tiny rooms and cramped hallways.

That isn't the case with second Hotline Miami where the levels are large and have plenty of open areas. Players will have to abandon gung-ho tactics and instead resort to a more careful plan of attack.

Clearing just one level can be tiring and frustrating. For all the countless enemies you kill, it only takes one of them to kill you.

Fortunately, Hotline Miami 2 provides an advantage that can be used by players to balance the odds. Using the lock-on button will target any foe closest to the cursor.

If the enemy is out of range, a red arrow will appear to help you hunt him. This option is very helpful considering that maps in Hotline Miami 2 have gotten larger.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number have a greatly improved storyline and gameplay. Fans of this game genre will not be disappointed.
