DeMarco Murray, a long-time running back in the National Football League (NFL), will be sliding into a new uniform colored green and white as he signs with the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to NFL Media Inside Ian Rapoport, Murray has signed a five-year contract with the Eagles. The team announced it last Thursday.

The deal is worth more than US$40 million, with US$20 million already guaranteed with the Eagles.

Murray will not be alone in the backfield as he shares it with Ryan Matthews, formerly with the San Diego Chargers. Matthews on the other hand was picked up by the Eagles a day earlier. He signed a three-year contract.

The fact that Murray was the NFL Offensive Player of the Year for 2014 initially scared off a number of teams from making some offers. Those teams feared a really big deal from Murray's camp.

It was inevitable though, and well-earned as well, as he finished with a career-high 392 regular season carries. He also finished with a career high 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns.

He transforms into the runner who will be running between tacklers; the same one that Head Coach Chip Kelly wanted former Eagles LeSean McCoy to be.

"I don't think it's a concern," Kelly said at a news conference Thursday. "But I also for us think it's also part of having Ryan here, is that I would hope DeMarco doesn't have to carry the ball 392 times this year. If he does we're running it 692 times."

Prior to signing with the Eagles, Murray was poised to be returning to the Dallas Cowboys and growing comfortable with the division's nastiest offensive line.

Most people attributed Murray's success to this offensive line. This thinking lead the Cowboys to the decision to allocate their money for other things.

The Eagles paid Murray the equivalent of McCoy's five-year deal with the Buffalo Bills.
