Changes are good but this is one of the most shocking yet exciting twists that Marvel Comics could do. There is a new superhero in town and it's the new female Thor.

Cosplay enthusiasts have dressed up like Thor and a lot of women have been photographed as the female version of Thor. Finally, it's no longer a "what if?", Thor will now be a female character and how it has happened is something you should not miss.

Thor, being one of the most relevant and well-established characters in Marvel Comics, is changing its gender.  This has been trending all over the internet and it has received mixed feedback from enthusiasts.

Thor has been out since 1962 and has had two movies hitting the big screen. This character was also one of the most important roles in the Avengers which was released last 2012.

It has been reported that there is a new series which will be launched in October that will re-cast Thor as a female character. This series is written by Jason Aaron and the art was illustrated by Russell Dauterman. Marvel announced that this is "one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of the 'big three' of Captain America, Iron Man and Thor".

Thor is a masculine character who is the hammer-wielding son of Odin. The editor of Marvel Comics, Wil Moss, said that it's time to update the inscription on Thor's hammer which reads, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."

He added that the new character of Thor will be uplifting the proud tradition of Marvel Comics with regards to creating strong female characters. The new Thor will be joining Storm, Black Widow, and more. She is not a temporary character and she is here to stay.

Marvel Comics pressed that this is the eighth lead female character who is aimed to speak directly to an audience which they have not targeted before - women and girls.

Marvel Comics has their lips pursed on the questions: "Who is she?", "What is her connection to Asgard?", and "Where did she come from?"
