Last year, Brendan Iribe, Oculus VR CEO, announced the release of a consumer version of its Oculus Rift is a mere "months away."

A few days ago, a news report claimed the creator of the Oculus Rift himself, Palmer Luckey, gave hints that narrowed down the release date.

The Telegraph quoted Luckey saying the Oculus Rift's first consumer version (CV1) may be released in this winter, which means customers may get their hands on the item in November or December.

The Oculus Rift head mount display have been making waves and many consumers anticipate its release this year.

Unfortunately, Luckey denied mentioning a winter 2015 release date for the Oculus Rift CV1. Luckey aired his side on Reddit explaining no information was given with regards to the release date.

Since then, The Telegraph interview no longer contained any reference to a winter 2105 release date for the Oculus Rift CV1.

No price has been officially set for the CV1 but the company founders, Luckey and Mitchell, mentioned they'd like the price of the VR helmet between US$200 to US$400.

Mitchell conceded that the estimated retail price may go up or down depending on the components, number of pre-orders and the scale of production.  Luckey insistst they'll keep the retail price as low as possible.

Interestingly, a VR headset using Oculus technology has already came out last year. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the first smartphone to incorporate a VR headset.

Technically, the CV1 will have better graphics. But the Samsung VR gear has already been released and will more likely outsell the CV1, which has no official release date yet.

Other big name companies have also announced their interest in developing VR headsets of their own.
