Music Festival Fans Want Kanye West Dumped from the Glastonbury Lineup, Called the Rapper “An Insult to Music Fans”

Back in 2008, many British music fans, including the always-grouchy Oasis front man Noel Gallagher protested intensely when it was announced that Jay Z was going to headline the Glastonbury festival. Jay Z was the first rapper to kick off the festival, but fans weren't too happy about it, saying that the rapper was not "rock" enough to deserve the top spot.

Well, history might repeat itself, as when news about Kanye West headlining Glastonbury's Saturday line up surfaced, it was met with protests and objections from fans who demanded that the 37-year old rapper be dropped.

A petition was made on Change.org and it has already garnered 21,000 people. According to the petition, they want Kanye out of the festival because he is "an insult to music fans all over world" and is undeserving of the spot.

So why do fans think that Kanye isn't good enough for the five-day music festival? The most accurate answer would be rock elitism. On the petition, fans want organizers to cancel Kanye and replace him with a rock band and continued to explain that they paid a lot of money to attend Glastonbury and "expect a certain level of entertainment."

It's kind of difficult to imagine an American audience having the same opinion and protesting a festival over having to watch a rapper for just a few minutes on one evening of the festival, however, it seems like things are extremely different for the Glastonbury loyalists.

Take note though, that anyone can easily join and sign the petition at Change.org. Whether you are attending or not attending the festival or even if you do not live in the U.K., you can join the petition. Therefore, not all 21,000 signatures might not actually come from Glastonbury attendees.
