Recent U.S. Women's Open champion professional golfer Michelle Wie has been voted the Best Female Golfer at Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) awards Wednesday.

Michelle Sung Wie is of Korean decent and was born in Honolulu, Hawaii.  She became the youngest golfer to win the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links at the age of 13 and won her first golf majors last June at the U.S. Women's Open in Pinehurst, North Carolina two strokes ahead of Stacy Lewis.

Also at the age of 13, Wie was the youngest player to make a cut in a major tournament, the Nabisco Championship in 2003.

She also won in April the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Lotte Championship and two other LPGA tournaments, the Lorena Ochoa International in 2009 and the Canadian Women's Open in 2010.

Wie, now 24, is currently participating in the Marathon Classic LPGA golf tournament at the Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio along with top seed Lewis. She last played this course 11 years ago.

This is the 22nd edition of the ESPYs and it is hosted by Canadian rapper Drake and the winners of the ESPY awards were chosen through online fan balloting.

Bubba Watson was voted Best Male Golfer. He won his second Masters title last April at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia and is currently participating in the British Open at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England.

Other notable sports personalities who won an ESPY are tennis players Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal for Best Female and Male Tennis Players, respectively.

Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunders in the National Basketball Association (NBA) picked up two awards for being the Best NBA Player and Best Male Athlete.

Kawhi Leonard of the recent NBA champions San Antonio Spurs also received an award for Best Championship Performance.
