The long-time National Football League (NFL) rivalry between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots is still alive and well. Let's take a look at the colourful moments in this rivalries' history.

We begin with Bill Parcells who initially guided the Patriots to Super Bowl XXI. Afterwards, he bolted for the Jets. It began the border battle between the two teams.

The Patriots would retaliate though, as they picked up current Head Coach Bill Belichick just 24 days after he resigned from the Jets. From then, the Patriots had been on a tear.

Belichick though would not escape from the conflict unscathed. His protégé', Eric Mangini, would out his mentor for the "Spygate" incident where Belichick would film the Jets' hand signals.

Due to it, the Patriots were stripped of their first-round pick in 2008.

It continues with the exit of Mangini and the entrance of Rex Ryan who brought respectability back to the Jets with a pair of AFC Championship appearances. Also adding fuel to the fire was the fact that Ryan had a brash way of speaking.

The rivalry took a new turn last Tuesday when the Jets filed a new tampering charge against the Super Bowl champions.

According to the Jets, the "tampering" action came from Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Apparently, he was guilty of this when he commented on cornerback Darrele Revis who returned to the Jets two years after the initial divorce.

Speaking with reporters at the league meetings in Phoenix, Kraft said, "I speak as a fan of the New England Patriots, we wanted to keep him."

That, and the fact that the Patriots slapped a similar charge last January, was enough to add fuel to the on-going rivalry.

The tug-of-war battle between Revis is the latest piece in the rivalry between the Jets and the Patriots. But it certainly won't be the last.
