The Sacramento Kings are about to make history with the National Basketball Association (NBA) as they are preparing to sign the first-ever player of Indian descent, Sim Bhullar.

The Kings are signing Bhullar to a 10-day contract. Although the contract is short, it still gives Bhullar the distinction of being the only Indian player to play in the NBA.

The deal was reported by a person who was privy to the deal and wanted to remain anonymous.

The condition of anonymity was requested because the Kings were not supposed to announce the deal yet until Thursday when David Wear's 10-day contract will expire and free up a spot on the roster.

Bhullar is a 7-foot-5, 360-pound center who is rising up the ranks from the NBA development league affiliate, the Reno Bighorns. The 22-year old Bhullar will be on the roster starting Friday when the Kings play host to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Bhullar's inherent size as well as his heritage are both factors that intrigue the Kings.

The connection is not one that came from out of the blue though as the Kings are owned by Vivek Ranadive, the first Indian-born team owner in the NBA.

Currently, Ranadive is trying to expand the league's presence in his native country of India.

One of the first steps he will be taking toward his goal is by signing Bhullar who averages 10.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks from his time in the development league.

When the Kings announced that Bhullar would be signed to a 10-day contract, Ranadive said that India would be the next great frontier that the NBA would conquer.

In a statement that Ranadive released, he said that Bhullar, "represents one of many that will emerge from that region as the game continues to garner more attention and generate ever-increasing passion among a new generation of Indian fans."
