China's naval force is set to commission new Type-093G powerful attack submarines that are nuclear-powered and has supersonic anti-ship missile capabilities.

"Judging from the vessel's design, the Type-093G should have strong anti-ship and counter-submarine capabilities.  It is also likely to be upgraded with the capability of striking land targets with cruise missiles in the near future," said navy senior expert Yin Zhuo.

Reports indicate the Type-093G is an updated version of China's Type-093 attack submarines. The Type-093G is said to have a bigger space for a vertical launch system because of its longer hull compared to the Type-093's short 110-meter regular variant.

Among the best features of Type-093G are its noise reduction capabilities, better mobility, and faster speed.

It is also equipped with the latest YJ-18 supersonic anti-ship missile which can significantly damage aircraft carrier vessels. The YJ-18 can launch a 300-kilogram warhead to as far as over 200-kilometer.

"Though China was comparatively late in developing advanced nuclear-powered submarines such as the Type-093G, we used a lot of the most cutting-edge technologies and equipment on our submarines, enabling them to compete with their foreign counterparts," said Modern Ships Magazine Editor-in-Chief Chi Yiliang.

Satellite pictures showed that these new nuclear-propelled attack submarines are anchored at undetermined port. There were reports that the shipyard have already finished making these new submarines and are set to be delivered to China's naval force.

China's Navy reportedly has six existing Type-093 and three Type-091 submarines as well as Type-094 submarines that carry either JL-1 or JL-2 nuclear missiles.

The China's seemingly powerful submarine force existed way back in 1970s wherein it already had nuclear-powered attack submarines.

It was only in 2009 that China opened itself to the world about its powerful submarines when two of its nuclear attack submarines were presented during the parade of China's Navy 60th Founding Anniversary.
