Stan Freberg, hailed as 'The Father Of The Funny Commercial' passed away at the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center, according to his wife Hunter Freberg via Hollywood Reporter.

Freberg was 88 years old.

"He was and always be my hero, and I will carry his brilliant legacy forward as best I am able," said Freberg's son, who paid homage to his father's work through social media.

Freberg might not have garnered the same fame as the other comedians, but his influence has made a mark in public with his lifetime work of over 70 years, which encompassed radio, television, comedy, albums, advertising jingles and nightclub performances.

Freberg was also known to be the godfather of humorous and irreverent commercials. He lampooned several cultural institutions and defined himself as a 'guerilla satirist'.

The New York Times proclaimed Freberg as the 'Che Guevara Of Advertising'.

Comedian and singer Weird Al Yankovic's major influence in his career was Freberg.

"Very sad to say that one of my absolute all-time heroes has just passed away. RIP Stan Freberg. A legend, an inspiration, and a friend," tweeted Yankovic through Twitter.

Freberg's inspirations were Jack Benny, Fred Allen and Norman Conwin, who were involved in working with cartoons for decades since the 1940s.

Freberg voiced the character of Junyer bear in a Chuck Jones Looney Tunes cartoon in 1948. He also voiced the 'Beaver' in the 1955 Disney cartoon, 'The Lady And The Tramp'.

The comedian created unique comic capers such as 'Nine out of ten doctors recommend Chun King Chow Mein' and 'Green Chri$ma$', which focused on the overrated commercialization of Christmas.

Freberg continued his work until his death. Last November, he created 'The Genius Of Stan Freberg', hosted by Harry Shearer. He also served as a panelist in Comic pop-culture convention and released a new comedy record, 'Songs In The Key Of Freberg'.

Freberg is survived by his wife, his son Donovan and one daughter named Donna Jean.
